Cordyceps
Description:Cordyceps is a type of fungus that parasitises the moth caterpillar. It is found primarily at the Tibetan plateau, Qinghai, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Gansu. During winter, the fungus attacks and parasitises the caterpillar. Its mycelia, which is a mass of thread-like branching tubes (known as hyphae) found on the fungus, invades and fills the caterpillar’s entire body and kills it. In early summer, a plant-like stem -- called “winter worm, summer plant”, which translated refers to the Chinese name for cordyceps -- germinates from the caterpillar’s body. Like Chinese Ginseng, the wild variety of Cordyceps is prized higher than the cultivated variety of Cordyceps for its medicinal properties. The wild Cordyceps found in the Tibetan plateau is regarded as the King of Cordyceps. In ancient times, Cordyceps was available only to Chinese royalty. In 1993, Cordyceps was made known to the world when two Chinese athletes beat three world records at the Chinese National Games’ track and field competition. Led by the legendary coach Ma Junren, these athletes were on a high dosage of Chinese herbs and food supplements which increased their stamina and endurance. One of the main herbs was Cordyceps. The popularity of Cordyceps has motivated the use of bioengineering technology for its commercial cultivation in other countries. However, the end product looks different and has fewer active ingredients than the wild Cordyceps. Cordyceps helps to enhance immunity, therefore building resistance against coughs and colds. It also aids to reduce Phlegm, strengthen the Lungs and fortify the Kidneys. It is known to boost libido as well. Biomedical research has shown that Cordyceps is effective in managing shortness of breath and childhood asthma. Cordyceps is suitable for all ages and genders, and ideal for those who are prone to fatigue, aches, pains, and shortness of breath. Directions:Use 2 qían (8g) of Cordyceps and double boil it or keep it in hot water and consume as a drink, or take as prescribed by your physician. Alternatively, create a classic food combination of Cordyceps by double-boiling it with duck meat. |
